Rich Lehrer

National Faculty

A veteran middle school STEM teacher, Rich taught in public schools in British Columbia and American international schools in Venezuela and Brazil before moving to the U.S. twelve years ago. Rich is currently the Director of Innovation at Brookwood School in Manchester-By-The-Sea, Massachusetts, where he led a two year school-wide PBL faculty professional development initiative from 2014-2016. In July 2019, Rich and his family will move to Chile where Rich will become the High School Design Technology teacher at Nido de Aguilas, the International School of Santiago.

A firm believer in the transformative power of PBL and authentic global and making experiences, Rich was also formerly the Educational Exchange Coordinator for “e-NABLE”, a community of designers, makers, engineers, educators, families, and students dedicated to the creation and global dissemination of affordable 3D printed mechanical hands for children in need. Additionally, Rich was recently named the PBS Digital Innovator for Massachusetts, is an “Ultimaker Pioneer,” and has recently been working with MIT’s D-Lab to adapt their humanitarian engineering philosophy to a Middle School audience. An increasingly sought after speaker, presenter, and facilitator, Rich brings both a unique problem solving perspective and a wealth of practical PBL strategies to his BIE workshop facilitations.
