Evidence Matters

PBLWorks has a long history as a research institution — we started as the Buck Institute for Education almost 40 years ago, and we carry that rich history with us in the work we do today. We conduct our own research studies and partner with districts and universities studying the efficacy and outcomes resulting from Project Based Learning.

Explore some of our research below.

student engagement and pbl

Want to boost student engagement? Implement Gold Standard PBL.

The driving question for this brief is designed to explore one of the most common concerns we hear from educators seeking our support. How does PBL positively impact student engagement, and does engagement lead to better student outcomes?

Multilingual learners and PBL

Supporting Multilingual Learners Through Gold Standard Project Based Learning

This brief explores an important question for educators working with multilingual learners. The driving question for this brief is both timely and essential: How can we create learning experiences that build upon the linguistic and cultural assets multilingual learners bring to the classroom? How does Gold Standard PBL align with research-based best practices to support the academic achievement of multilingual learners?

PBL as HQIM

Gold Standard Project Based Learning designed as HQIM

The driving question for this brief revolves around a question at top of mind for school and district leaders who support a diverse population of teachers in their efforts to provide rigorous, grade-level-appropriate, and engaging instruction for their students. What resources and materials do teachers need to plan effectively and efficiently? How do we know those resources are high quality? What are HQIM and how do Gold Standard Project Based Units fit the criteria?
