Workshop Description
This introductory workshop gives participants the knowledge and skills to select, contextualize, and implement a pre-planned project. The workshop focuses on Project Based Teaching Practices and the skills necessary to facilitate projects in their classrooms. Participants will experience many activities built into projects, explore all provided project resources, and have ample planning time. Each participant will leave with a robust, personalized project implementation plan and readiness to facilitate high-quality PBL.
Who should take this workshop?
This is the ideal starting point for teachers and instructional coaches who are committed to Project Based Learning and eager to implement quickly. We encourage school & district leaders to experiencing this workshop alongside their teachers to build understanding and appreciation for the process.
This course is a pre-requisite for ongoing support and advanced workshops.

Your TEACH Bundle
This workshop is taught with PBLWorks TEACH as the underlying framework for teachers unpacking and understanding how Gold Standard projects are structured. While learning what PBL is and how it is different from standalone projects, teachers will explore the fully developed TEACH projects and outline-format project blueprints. Teachers that utilize a TEACH project in the Facilitate PBL workshop have reported that they feel ready to implement that project as early as the next week!
After the workshop, every teacher in your school (whether they took the workshop or not) will have access to fully designed Gold Standard PBL units and a collection of PBL blueprints to inspire your design efforts when you're ready. Plus, TEACH contains learning modules and a host of resources to elevate and maintain your teaching practices after the workshop ends.
What to Expect
Plan for a highly interactive experience! Over two consecutive days, participants will unpack and learn how to implement their subject-specific project unit. Facilitated by one of our expert National Faculty, this workshop includes a balanced blend of direct instruction, video analysis, hands-on work, resource sharing, peer collaboration, and feedback. There will be activities that get participants out of their seats, opportunities to have fun with other participants, and independent time to work on project planning. Each day is 6 hours with an additional 1 hour for lunch.
What you will do in 2 days
The following describes the focus of each day. Each day’s session builds on the previous one. Participants should plan to attend both days of learning.
Day #1
Picking a Project
On this first day, participants develop a foundation in Project Based Teaching Practices. They select and unpack a PBLWorks project to gain an in-depth understanding of the learning goals, standards, products, and storyline.
Day #2
Teaching a Project
Participants work on their project implementation plan to determine how they will implement the project in their classrooms. They delve deeper into Project Based Teaching Practices and learn how to use them to bring their projects to life.

Our workshops model the PBL process. You'll be experiencing the same style of learning that you're designing for your students. The workshop models many features of Project Based Learning, especially the project path.
You'll experience a mix of learning activities. The workshop is a blend of direct instruction, video analysis, hands-on work, resource sharing, and peer collaboration and feedback.
You'll understand how PBL supports educational equity. Every workshop and every service we design reflects our mission to prepare all students for academic, personal, and career success.
It's part of a sustained learning journey. Real change happens over weeks, months, and even years, not overnight. After this workshop, you can continue on your learning path by planning for coaching and online consultancy to deepen your PBL practice.
