She is passionate about reaching students who are furthest from opportunity and teaching social studies with nuance and respect for all people.

Melendy has been recognized as her campus teacher of the year and was a finalist for her district's secondary teacher of the year in 2019. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in history and African studies and Master of Arts in teaching degrees from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She loves to travel and has visited six continents, including five with her students. When she's home, you can find her listening to music with her family and dog, Norah Bones.
